Marcelo Alcantara and Birk Skyum join Omarchy Core
Two of the people doing the most to take Omarchy beyond x86 are joining Omarchy Core: Marcelo Alcantara and Birk Skyum!
Marcelo Alcantara
When we introduced Omarchy M in September, Marcelo was the guy building the native Mac installer. Since then, he’s become the one coordinating the whole effort. Fifteen people from all over the world, each working on a different layer of the stack, from GPU drivers and displays to Touch ID and the installer itself. Somebody has to keep all of that pulling in the same direction, and Marcelo has been that person.
The result shipped in Omarchy 4.5. You can now download an app on macOS (or run brew install omacom/mac/omarchy), and it’ll put Omarchy right alongside it on your M1, M2, M3, or Neo MacBook. No USB stick, no terminal incantations. Two months from team announcement to “just download it” is an incredible pace.
That’s a huge credit to everyone on Omarchy M: Naeem, Scott, Eduardo, Shun, Dj, Ryan, Miguel, Liam, Eryk, Jaidip, Joshua, Shawn, Randy, Jon, and Marcelo. You finished what Asahi started, and you’re already pushing on to M4, M5, and M6. Thank you!
Birk Skyum
Birk joined Omarchy Dragon in September with his Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x and a track record of upstream fixes in Arch Linux ARM, libcamera, PipeWire, systemd, and the kernel. Since then, he’s taken on coordinating the bring-up of the entire Snapdragon lineup. That means gathering the machines, figuring out what works and what doesn’t on each one, and making sure the fixes land where they help everyone.
You can already see his fingerprints all over the ARM work in 4.5: no more pointless reboot prompts after every update, cameras that show up at login on Snapdragon laptops, and apps that are offered (or hidden) based on what actually runs on ARM. But that’s just the beginning. Birk is driving toward an upcoming release where every Snapdragon machine we support will just work. Sleep, battery, video, cameras, the lot. That’s the bar, and he’s the one making sure we clear it.
Welcome!
Omarchy is going to run beautifully on every major platform, and Core needs the people who are making that happen. Marcelo and Birk have been doing exactly that. Now it’s official.
Welcome to Omarchy Core, Marcelo and Birk!
