Omarchy.org redesign launches with 29 languages

The website for a beautiful, fun Linux distribution ought to be beautiful and fun too. So we’ve given Omarchy.org a complete redesign, and we’re launching it in 29 languages (because when you’ve just raised ~$2m in tokens, why the hell not?). A little retro magic, a lot more to explore, and a much bigger welcome to the world.

This is a website that wants you to play with your computer! The pixels, colors, and animations carry the spirit of Omarchy straight into the browser. You can get a feel for the place before you’ve downloaded a single ISO. It’s also my own personal connection to those formative years in the pre-internet online world of ASCII art, the Amiga demoscene, and that vibrant aesthetic of the 90s. More color, less polish. More pixels, fewer soft gradients.

There’s now room to show off the editors, terminals, agents, games, Windows VM, and hardware that make Omarchy useful every day. Browse community themes, find a plugin, see real workstations, or discover a meetup near you. Meet the people building it and the patrons funding it. We finally have a front door with enough room for everything happening inside.

And that front door now speaks your language. Arabic, Bengali, Catalan, Danish, English, Filipino, Finnish, French, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Sinhala, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Urdu, Uzbek, and Vietnamese. The main site and every news story are translated. The manual is still in English; we’ll tackle that next. These are initial translations, and corrections from native speakers are very welcome through the site repository.

We have local domains too: omarchy.ae, omarchy.dk, omarchy.fi, omarchy.fr, omarchy.gr, omarchy.hu, omarchy.in, omarchy.is, omarchy.jp, omarchy.kr, omarchy.mx, omarchy.ph, omarchy.pt, omarchy.se, and omarchy.tr.

Community members have generously registered more domains and offered to point them our way. While we connect the remaining local names, you can use bn.omarchy.org, ca.omarchy.org, ga.omarchy.org, it.omarchy.org, lt.omarchy.org, pl.omarchy.org, si.omarchy.org, ta.omarchy.org, th.omarchy.org, ur.omarchy.org, uz.omarchy.org, vi.omarchy.org, and zh.omarchy.org. Use the globe beside the theme picker to jump between languages.

This redesign grew out of a wonderful burst of work in the Omarchy Design group. Barış Girişmen created the design that became the foundation of the new site, built the pixel-grid shader, and drove an enormous amount of the implementation and polish. Christoffer Hallas brought prototypes, animation work, theme transitions, and a steady stream of refinements. Daniel Schmier contributed designs and implementation for the logo, news, install, team, foundation, and testimonial sections.
