Omacom Foundation hires outfoxxed as Head of Omarchy Shell

We’re hiring outfoxxed, the creator of Quickshell, as Head of Omarchy Shell! He’s joining the Omacom Foundation full time and becoming a member of Omarchy Core. The person who built the toolkit that made Quattro possible is coming aboard to help us launch the whole thing to the moon.

This supersedes the three-year Quickshell sponsorship we announced in August. Instead of that sponsorship, outfoxxed will be a full-time employee of the Omacom Foundation, leading our work on Omarchy Shell. We’re putting the creator right at the center of what we’re building.

Shell is pivotal to the agentic OS we’re making. It’s the bar, the menus, the notifications, the widgets, and all the little interactions that make the computer feel like yours. Quickshell gives us the building blocks to shape that experience in QML. Combine that with agents that are incredibly good at writing QML, and suddenly changing your desktop is something you can ask for, try, and share.

The proof is in the plugins! When we announced the sponsorship, the community had already created over a thousand in Quattro’s first week. Now the catalogue has close to three thousand plugins. Games you can play right from the bar, panels that track your coding agents, music players, and even a cat that wanders along your bar waiting to be petted. People are taking a system that used to feel fixed and making it their own. That’s the malleable computer coming to life.

Having the creator of Quickshell on board means we can work on the whole stack together. Make the shell faster and more reliable. Make it easier to build a great plugin. Improve the foundations when a plugin author runs into a limitation. Turn what we’re learning from thousands of experiments into a better experience for everyone who boots Omarchy. And ensure the whole thing is safe and secure.

And by joining Omarchy Core, outfoxxed will help set the direction for the distro as a whole. Shell is too central to the experience to be an afterthought. It’s where so much of the beauty, the fun, and the possibilities of an agentic OS become something you can actually see and use.

outfoxxed is the Omacom Foundation’s second full-time hire, following Krzysztof Wilczyński, our Head of Omarchy Kernel. With the people leading both Kernel and Shell on board, we’re investing in the foundations of the whole experience. You can meet the foundation’s staff on the site.
